Mask requirement in bars and restaurants: extended for workers

The mandatory use of face masks for workers in bars, restaurants, supermarkets and the entire private sector has been extended until June. The decision came after a meeting between the government, Ministry of Labor and Ministry of Health, in agreement with Cgil, Cisl, Uil, Ugl, Confindustria and employer associations. Previously, there was a prospect of extending the use of personal protective equipment only until June 15 and only for places that had already been flagged in the regulations that came into effect on May 1, but it was decided to follow a safeguard line that, however, seems to provide different measures for public and private sectors of employment.

The meeting was held on Wednesday, May 4, and thus extended the requirement to wear a face mask during working hours for those working in stores, supermarkets, businesses, assembly spaces and places where there is contact with the public, thus including bars and restaurants. Those who work outdoors or in isolated conditions are exempt. The same does not apply to public sector workers, for whom the use of a face mask remains only recommended.
